What Node.js version do I need?
Node.js 22 or newer. Check with node --version. We recommend using nvm or the official installer.
Which AI model should I use?
Anthropic Pro/Max with Claude Opus 4.6 is strongly recommended for long-context strength and better prompt-injection resistance. OpenAI ChatGPT/Codex is also supported.
How do I connect WhatsApp?
Run the onboarding wizard and select WhatsApp. You'll scan a QR code to pair. WhatsApp uses the Baileys library. See our Getting Started tutorial.
Is my data safe?
Yes. OpenClaw is fully self-hosted — your data never leaves your machine. The Gateway binds to loopback by default. DM pairing is enabled for safety.
Can I run multiple agents?
Yes! OpenClaw supports multi-agent routing. Each agent gets its own workspace and isolated sessions. See Multi-Agent Routing.
How do I update OpenClaw?
Run npm install -g openclaw@latest and then openclaw doctor to check for migrations.
